What can one say about a wine almost 50 years old that is so, so good? Opened to celebrate the Biden inauguration. Not perfect, for sure, but actually perfect in every way that matters: elegant, smooth, faded beauty. Meet me in a land of hope and dreams.

Cherry red with a touch of bricking. Low neck fill. Cork entirely soaked, but no apparent seepage. Popped and poured -- we weren't sure if this would be a Will-o-the Wisp. A slight amount of funk at first but that blew off quickly. It was not a WoW! Lovely wine, loads of tart fruits, and showing well given its age. None of the herbacious notes that sometimes come with the Bdx of teh '70's. Loads of tannins, not much sweetness. A bit astringent. Truly a wine for old Bordeaux lovers. I can understand some of the fairly low ratings, but this is a good wine.

Classic Cos nose; leather, cassis, berries. The entry is tart and acidic with some leather. It still tastes like Cos, but it's missing all the density; i.e., the fruit is lacking, but the flavor is still remotely there. The finish falls flat and short...old. Overall it's well past it's prime, but drinkable. Too acidic. Note: it opened up a little after a couple hours. Still nothing special though.

- Brick color - At the tag end of its glorious life. Fruit is totally gone. Brownish thin cast.

I think I finally understand what damp forest floor tastes like. Acid was strong. Thin fruit. Wine was thin. Past it's peak.
