  • Great wine slightly past its best - unless you like some caramel tertiary notes. Deep golden yellow colour. Rich mouthfeel. Notably heavier in the mouth than the standard FMC (which is a good wine). Lemon, honey and Melon with a touch of tertiary caramel, not too much at this point. Medium length, some complexity. Drink now, don't wait. Incredible value for money.

  • Deep bronze with orange flashes. A gentle bouquet of dried pear, orange peel, kumquat and honeydew melon that gets more tropical as the glass warms up. A hint of spice lurks along with desiccated almonds.
The entry is medium-bodied with lively linear acidity, the slightest hint of orange oil and then fruits as per the nose. The mid-palate is gentle fleshy but fills with more lime and lemon pith with an edge of honey - like lemsip. A touch of elderflower and papaya shows towards the relatively long finish.
Showing very nicely at 15 years old but rather to drink up.

  • Recently released by KF. Golden colour in the glass, quite oily, the nose is subtle but the balance of fruit and acidity on the palate is good. There is very much a flavour of apricot stones, with a slightly bitter but rich finish. Drinking well now but I’m sure will continue to improve.

  • Quite vibrant nose showing overripe tropical fruit (apricot, peach) with a waxy note. Medium bodied, dry, delivering some overripe and even dried apricot and a hint of orange peel with firm acidic structure and somewhat oily texture. There is a slightly oxidative "sherry" aspect to the palate and it feels a bit tired (no fresh fruit left) but is still very good.

  • Quite deep golden yellow color. Somewhat restrained and moderately evolved nose with aromas of golden apples, some wool, a little bit of wet stones and a hint of white peach. Not giving much. The wine is full-bodied, concentrated and moderately developed on the palate with ripe, sweet-toned flavors of cantaloupe, ripe golden apples, some savory oak spice, a little bit of stony minerality, light notes of damp wool, a hint of creaminess and a touch of honeyed richness. The acidity feels moderately high, but so does the alcohol, lending a bit of warmth to the mouthfeel. The finish is ripe, rich and quite lengthy with nuanced flavors of exotic spices, some cantaloupe, light honeyed tones, a little bit of sweet oak spice and a hint of toast.

A good, nuanced and interesting Chenin Blanc, but perhaps slightly on the tired side - the fruit feels rich and the flavors complex, but the overall feel is getting a bit fat and flat, the acidity not able to lend sufficient freshness to the wine. Also the damp, woolly lanolin notes - typical of aged Chenin - take the fore at times, distracting slightly from the enjoyment, but fortunately not too much. All in all, a good, complex new world Chenin Blanc, but perhaps one that was showing its best a few years ago. Perhaps a bit on the pricey side for its quality at 39,50€.
