  Del Dotto Tasting + Barrels & Beasts; 10/5/2018-10/6/2018: From barrel. 887 South Family Reserve. Much like the St. Helena Mountain Vicard Privilege I had the other day, this 887 Vicard Distinction’s fruit worked quite well with the barrel influence. More giving and less grippy than the St. Helena Mountain, this 887 showed off some flashy dark purple, red, and black berry fruit, vanilla spice, and some minerality. Medium-to-full bodied, with a mid-palate that had both nicely balanced concentrated weight and swirling energy. Heavier and a bit toastier than the St. Helena Mountain, with more immediacy of flavor. A bit unresolved, but shows promise in the near term once bottled. 94+ points.
