Decanted for about 30 minutes. Hmm, the bouquet was very pleasant - a little tar and aniseed with herbaceous blackcurrant and plums backed by cedar - but with a slight hint of alcohol heat. On the palate this alcohol was far more to the fore and rather swamped everything which was annoying. I think time and half an hour in the fridge will put everything right.

Tasted double-blind. Overt fruitiness put my mind to a judiciously oaked and well balanced WA Bordeaux tribute, my guess. Although, strangely enough, I did tell the friend who poured it for me, 'it could be an internationally styled Saint-Julien.' In sum, a tasty, well made, modern leaning Bordeaux.

Wine-ark boys at Felix (Bistro Felix, Ash Street): Decanted for about 45 minutes. Black currant, cream, vanilla, pencil shavings and, oddly for me, a touch of oyster shell. On the palate it's got spiced rich, earthy black fruit with drying flour textured tannins. Still very young but played nicely with Bavette
