I love this cuvée but hesitated when I saw that the bottles were 4 years old, which isn't young for a simple Beaujolais. I need not have worried. Like previous vintages, it honours the name griotte cherry with less asperity than the fresh fruit and with an addition of fine minerals. Perhaps a bit less vibrant than when a year younger but good+ and dangerously moreish.

13.5% - Clear, med to deep purple / clean, med- intensity - redcurrant, macerated black cherries, spice box / dry, med- acidity, med- tannin, med body, med- intensity, med to short length. Not bad, but a tad austere (not necessarily what I'm looking for in a young Beaujolais). It definitely suffered from being opened right after Damien Coquelet's Fou de Beaujo.

P&p. Ripe, darkish fruit and softly smoky, earthy aromas. Fruit is sort of black cherry and apple. Nice juicy acidity. Moderate but discernible tannins. Not quite as vivacious as the 2017, but well put together, enjoyable, and a good value.
Nomacorc Select Green closure.

Friday at the strand (Strand Cellars, Croydon): Slightly ashy, black cherry, slight lozenge, very fruit pure, a little white pepper. Juicy, wet, fresh, easy, black cherry over bonfire ash, slightly textured on the mid palate. Lovely.
