  • S/CS/Cinsault/Grenache/Viognier/Mouvedre - so essentially a GSM with some others. Still, it's a bit too sharp. OK with food.

  • Lovely South African smokey stink along with plenty of juicy red fruit (cranberry, red cherry, red blackberry, plum), briar and slight vegetation. A carressing front palate (verging on plush) before gentle grip and fresh acidity comes in, and a touch of gently sweet fruit on the finish. Has enough of the classic SA stink, isn't dominated by oak, and has an easy yet non-boring palate. Delicious, would defo go again

  • Sat, 09/21/19, $2 Tasting (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): “60% Shiraz, 20% C.S., 7% Cinsault, 5% ea Grenache & Viognier, and 3% Mourvédre; Fermentation took place in 7-ton, open-top s/s tanks. The wines were pumped-over & punched-down manually 5x/day. The maceration period was 10-16 days before pressing. Each variety was aged separately for 14 mos in 300 L oak barrels (80% FR & 20% AM). 17,000 cases bottled 2/6/17 & released 4/1/17. 14.00% ABV, 3.70 g/L R.S., & 5.90 g/L T.A.”

N: RIPE, poss jammy (blk/boysen) berries with hints of pyrazines?

P: Med, poss LM, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by an astringent pucker which stays within hailing distance of the init frt as it works itself into the LONG, very, VERY slightly bitterish finish with a distinct swtness to the dusty tannins. NEEDS/deserves a yr or so, then drinking through '22. My VG+/EXC-, *poss* the higher for QPR of this flirting with R.S. style. 89 pts winealign.com & 86 WE @ $20. [This vendor's $9.95 is an IMPRESSIVE $5 < wine-searcher's lowest!]
