  • Lots of throw (surprise, surprise). Solid LBV, nothing stuck out, but nothing negative either.

  • Just got home from work and thought I'd give this bottle a go. Can't recall ever having an LBV from Presidential (Dalva to the rest of the world). I have no idea if this is filtered or not, as the label doesn't say. It does have a driven cork though.

My first taste: It appears to be a fairly dark ruby red, but it's a little dark in my den. A very typical young perfume nose of dark plums and cherries. The first thing I noticed on the palate is the hugh amount of acidity in this, way out of balance right now. Then some heat followed by some tannins, then a little bit of fruit, and a short finish.

The nose is the best thing going for this right now...but I just opened it. I'll try and see how it evolves over the next couple of days, if it lasts that long.

    24 hours later...

The nose is still about the same, but some liquorice is now showing. Although the acidity has mellowed some, the tannins are starting to show more and have balanced it out. The fruit is also much more promenant and showing mainly young primary dark fruits. The finish is still my major gripe, as it's very short. I'll save some for tomorrow and see how it does after 48 hours.

    48 hours later.

Well, I discovered this was an Unfiltered LBV when I hit the bottom of the bottle only to discover there was a fair amount of sediment for an LBV.

All I can say is what little tannins there were are almost gone and the acidity is firing on all 12 cylinders. This is a very simple LBV that is like drinking an overripe and very tart fruit bomb. There is no finish to speak of and only a faint mid-palate. This has got to be one of the lowest ranking Ports I've had this year. I hate to say this, but it was never a good drink and anything more than a glass or two was painful, it was just so tart. I actually started looking in the cellar to see what I could open to clean my palate with, it was that bad. 75 points and thats being generous.
