  • Second bottle and consistent notes. Wonderful mature white Burgundy. 93-94 despite the very mediocre vintage

  • First time drinking a Montrachet. Recent auction purchase, bought two bottles for a song in expectations of a complete write off, as 1984 does not exactly feature among the greatest white Burgundy vintages.
After getting a back-up 08 Meursault ready, I opened the darker of the two bottles for dinner on a Sunday evening, the soft cork with a moldy top came out in one piece using the Durand. Very happy with the first whiff from the open bottle, as this is obviously neither oxidized nor has it picked up any moldy or mushroomy flavors in the last 35 years. Still a fairly light golden color in the glass, nose and palate show a beautifully delineated white Burgundy with excellent freshness/acidity and minerality, fruit gravitating slowly from the white towards the yellow color spectrum, remaining touch of oak is nicely integrated and gives the wine a touch of sweetness, very good length. Those were the days when the word premox had not yet been invented - best value Burgundy purchase ever.
