Perhaps a bit pricey for the product, but this is a well crafted wine. It pours a clingy, glowing garnet that just loves proper stemware. The nose, after 90 minutes decanted, is much more interesting than the standard cherry-smoke Pinot. They're there, but much less dominant, leaving room for other red fruits, earth, allspice, fennel,...even dill... and purple flowers. The tartness of cranberry slides from the nose right onto the tongue in the first sip. But the longer it spends in the air, the more the smooth, chalky earth makes room for mushrooms and gunpowder alongside the expected sour cherries. Despite a light-medium body, there is chewy length and a bright acidic lift that pulls the drinker along. In that finish, after a time when cinnamon begins to spice the bouquet, there is a dank off-note that's hard to describe. But overall, the attention to detail is clear from beginning to end.
