  • This was an excellent, exotic bottle of grenache (labeled as Cannonau). It evolved positively over the course of the three evenings I took to consume it. Light, faded, almost turbid red color on opening. Day one it had a gorgeous red, floral perfume. On the palate it was red strawberry fruit with a bit of fine grained tannin and enough acidity to drive the flavor. A bit tight and light on the palate this really needed some air. Day two it picked up weight on the palate and an exotic spice flavor note of cinnamon and clove along with a deeper red fruit flavor developed while the scent became more subdued. Day three it was a bit more weighty on the palate, richer and with a deeper spice flavor and fading red fruit. Really impressive given the spotty notes other have for this. This bottle was not funky or bretty at all. Makes me think that most of the problems reported are a results of poor storage conditions. Given the positive development I think this can last at least another five years in good storage. Quite different from French grenache.

  • I guess I am lucky. This is a beautiful natural wine with a very light red colour. Thought based on that it would be vinegar but it was not. Beautiful soft delicate wines with the tannins completely silky and sweet. There is a sweet strawberry and cherry thing going on here that I really like. Was excellent with grilled lamb chops! Drink now!!

  • Tastes like vinegar. A lot of my garagiste wine ended up like this.

  • No pleasure here.

  • Cork must have been saturated at some point then dried out. vinegar. More than a little disappointed as this was part of a mystery case from Garagiste.

Garagiste

(TUDERI Dettori) Dettori #2 Dear Friends, Last week's Dettori (Sardinia) offer caused an outpouring of questions and requests for something less costly to get a read on the eccentric and one-of-a-kind style of the winery (we also received a number of interesting comments such as "why would you offer something this strange - stick to normal wine" - I'll let that go without comment). The problem is that Dettori doesn't have any red wine under $40-50. With that in mind, here you go, but this parcel is EXTREMELY LIMITED - Alessandro Dettori was willing to give us a few bottles at this reduced price but it's not a trend (more like an aberration). Like the Tenores from last week, the Tuderi is also from 100% old-vine Cannonau (Grenache) and I will reiterate my comparison to Frank Cornelissen, maybe even more so here. 2003 was a top vintage on the island (they are used to torrid conditions every year) and this baby brother to the normally $125 Tenores (the wine we offered last week for around $60) is an unforgettable wine experience - if you read the review below, which is very accurate, it's apparent that this is another singular result that must be enjoyed over many hours to fully appreciate and understand. Keep in mind, the prices below are not the norm - both wines would normally be $40-50, even from us: 2003 Dettori Tuderi ...and, for those of you searching for the next uncovered stone, Dettori presents one of his signature wines (rarely if ever exported), the 100% Monica Chimbanta from a great vintage. 2006 was equally as good on the island as it was across the water in Bolgheri... 2006 Dettori Chimbanta What is Monica? An indigenous red grape to Sardinia (with a possible Iberian link), those of you familiar with Argiolas' entry-level Perdera have already sampled Monica but, in Dettori's hands, all bets are off. While the 2002 Chimbanta may be a benchmark for Monica, 2006 was a far better vintage and Dettori believes the wine is underpriced at $50-60?. Intense, brooding and masculine in a hyper-natural way, the Chimbanta has a deep red presence with layers of white and red fruit mixed with whiffs of cardamom, flowers and stone - more so than the Cannonau-based wines which are more esoteric, citric and floaty. With the Chimbanta, you taste the grape skins and aggressive nature of this rustic island terroir but the wine never sacrifices its sense of harmony or (somehow) it's sense of finesse. If you look up TN's for the 2002 Chimbanta, the 2006 has even more of everything. VERY RARE. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY of both wines Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy6347 Itlay6348
