A good St Jo drinking well now.

  • Pleasant drink, good fruit and soft on the tannins now, would not leave the rest of the bottles for too long. Lacking acidity makes it flat.

  • On the nose, there is good balance between ripe red fruits, nutmeg, toasted almond and cumin with a touch of earthy note. The palate is fresh, deep and powerful. Full-bodied and concentrated flavours from entry to finish which still has some bite of acidity and tannins. Some people may find that this provides an interesting lift to the palate. At this point, this needs some decanting for the texture to soften. A few more years of development would lead to better integration of the components and smoother mouthfeel. 91-92 pts.

  • Les Vins de Vienne, Saint-Joseph, L’Arzelle, 2017: Disclaimer: Before I get into the notes, I must state that the négociant which initiated the kosher runs of Les Vins de Vienne is a very dear and close friend whose journey into the wine world I have been following almost since day 1. I salute his achievement here. Bravo Nathan, you killed it! As with its 4 siblings, this wine truly honors the reputation of its makers as well as of its appellation. Decanted for 5 hours. Deep ruby towards purple in color. On the nose, bay leaves, lavender, blackberries, black cherries, new leather as well as freshly cracked pepper. Medium-bodied, medium intensity, with an elegant texture. On the palate, tart cherries, blackberries, laurel, bay leaf and star anis, saline and umami on the mid palate with hints of morels, earthy minerals, with medium acidity, firm tannins, with notes of roasted herbs and black pepper that linger on the long finish. Very floral and herbaceous with good body, fruit and tannins wrapping up the package quite nicely. 13% Abv. Drink 2021-2029 or so. 92
