2017 Horizontal Berthaut (Empire Chinese Cuisine): Slow ox for 5 hours, red fruits, candied, spice, full body, good acid, broad on the palate, high acid, lacks the fruits to balance out the acid. Lacks complexity but very pretty to drink

Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): Fantastic stuff. A bit darker than is typical for the house style but archetypal in the acid-driven fruit here. It's got more of an intense earthy, iron character on the palate here, but the floral and perfumed aromatics on the nose are unmistakably Berthaut. Likely more interesting with age, even in this relatively lighter vintage, given how dense and chewy this was.

1/3 bottles. To me the newer bottlings from Amelie are the best version of Cazetiers available. This is so seamless, balanced, effortlessly sexy and delightfully pure. A hedonistic masterpiece with a core of sapid red fruit and berries, tons of different flowers, sweet tobacco, a subtle hint of oak, cinnamon, crushed rose pepper, oriental spices and blood orange. Satin-like texture with remarkable length. So good, but also quite dense and structured, and it's very clear that the best is yet to come. 2028+
