Wednesday Wine Education #1; 6/17/2020-6/19/2020 (Grapes & Grains, Temecula, CA): The bottom layer of whole clusters during fermentation adds a needed tinge of vegetal, stemmy pepperiness to the finish. Bursting with ripe berry flavor, provincial herbs, cocoa, and lavender, this monovarietal, old vine Carignane delivers an uncomplicated, yet rich mouthfeel and approachable tannin. Well received.

This is good wine. I like it much better than the 2014 pinot from the same vineyard. It's a bit hot (13.8 I think, but it's very fine print that I can't read). This wine has a very nice, although somewhat one dimensional nose. Cherries and stewed red and blue fruits. Similar to pinot noir in some aspects (cherries), but heavier in alcohol. Light-medium body. Dark colors. Fresh flavor. Medium tannins, nicely integrated. Low-medium acid. Nice fruit flavor. This might develop nicely over the next several years. I'll drink my next bottle in a year or so.

Overpowering mushrooms at this point. This aged fast (cork was perfect fwiw). Went down the drain. Drink up if you have any left.
