  • Flickinger Warehouse Tasting (Chicago, IL): A very slight hint of sulphurous reduction on the nose, but it does seem to dissipate with swirling. Very structural, this is almost all minerals and acid, with less fruit than I would expect for a wine of this age. Stony, with very high acidity to boot. This was a wine I noted to revisit, but unfortunately forgot to; probably one of my favourites today and would have shown much better if this had seen more air.

  • Lunch at Tang Yun (Tang Yun, Tanglin Club, Singapore): Not bad at all, if a little on the fat side. This was my wine of the lunch. It was quite old school Meursault, with butter and cream, plump white fruit and flowers, marzipan, and then a little twist of mineral on the nose. There was a touch of sulphur at first, but that blew off in time, with more honeyed aromas coming in more. I liked the palate more than the nose. This had power and balance, with white peach and ripe white fruit lined with a beautiful line of mineral and kumquat pulling away into a wonderfully long, spicy finish. Wow. Very good indeed. This needs more time yet, but it will be a wonderful old school Meursault Perrieres.

  • Dinner at Kel's (Kelvin and Joyce's Place, Bishan): I loved this. It had a very attractive nose, with deep draws of butter and cream, honey and nuts, along with a core of white fruit and melons, maybe a touch of white chocolate, all traced with a little bit of minerality. Quite a bit of oaky vanilla on the nose, and it certainly smelt a little ripe and plump, but very inviting nonetheless. The palate was delicious too. Still marked by the strong acidity of the vintage, but also showing deep, powerful flavours of white fruit and citrusy lemons traced with a good bit of mineral and spice, all trailing away into a nice bright finish. A very good wine, very unabashedly old school, and with its best years ahead of it yet.

  • Flickinger Customer Appreciation Tasting (Casino Club - Chicago IL): Walk-around tasting. A big step up over 2012 Charmes. Brighter, leaner, with good+ depth and volume. Needs time, 90-91 point potential.

  • Dad's 70th (Odette, National Gallery, Singapore): Lovely. Still young, but this showed off the strength of the 2014 vintage as well as the Perrieres terroir. I liked the nose on this, with its notes of cream and chalk, white fruit and stony mineral. Classic Meursault, classic Perrieres. It was on the palate where the wine really shone though. Weighty and authoritative, yet fresh and lively, with all the cut and thrust of good 2014, this unfolded in the mouth in creamy layers of apple flesh, chalk and butter, and then a lovely lick of mineral and seashell filling the back-palate with quite a bit of power and fullness. Very good indeed. Old school sensibilities, yet with no lack of finesse. Very drinkable now, but with its best window at least a few years ahead yet. Delicious stuff that worked with many of the seafood and creamier dishes that we had.
