Balanced. Missing the tertiary layers to warrant a higher score....but mostly resolved and with good, sweetish stuffing still. Kind of wine you want to pair with fancy food which stands up but not distract from the complexity of the menu.

Davyd's bday at Dakota poolside. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of fragrant toasty oak, red plums, redcurrant, peppery spice. Developing. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), soft medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of ripe red plums, concentrated strawberry, red cherries, redcurrant, white pepper, sweet toasty oak and spices. Long finish. Good quality I suppose. Hahaha I was actually guessing this was a 10 year old ripe super-charged oaky Californian Pinot Noir. On hindsight it all makes sense. Sweet and heavily oaked. For drinking a Hermitage - this is not the style I am looking for.

Slight barnyard on nose. Some fruit but heavily balanced by acidity and a stony finish. Fine, classic hermitage, drinking well.

Fine sediment when decanting. Gentle wine but with plenty of classy Syrah backbone. Still improving IMO.
