  • Received this as a gift from Mexico. I’d drink this anytime.

  • Red and black berries, earth and bramble on the nose. Red fruit and peppers on the palate. Moderate, drying tannins. Solid wine, not quite in my wheelhouse in terms of flavor profile.

  • Lots of negativity around this wine without a lot of comments to support those feeling. Not sure I understand why. Just to put it into perspective, I am the first review out side of Texas.

So OK in Texas this wine is a pretty mediocre wine apparently. You have so many finer wines to drink that somehow this falls to the bottom huh? Wow, what a group of lucky wine drinkers! Us poor shmugs in the north east just have to suffer the dregs that are afforded to us from time to time I guess.

Well, to the non-Texans here, guess what?! Salvation awaits. This wine is pretty good. Its got a touch of the cab/merlot fruit thing going (it is a 2017 after all) but the Tempranillo really calms it down and keeps it focused in a more serious way. This was my first bottle from this particular winery (desde 1597 apparently - where have I been all these years!) and I was impressed. It wasn't sloppy, gloppy or stewed. It was balanced, and more or less focused (ok ok it could have used a little more focus but it was still more or less in the ball park). It paired well with food and the bottle didn't make it out of the meal alive.....
