  • This wine is made from selected yellow muscatel aszú grapes. A sort of rarity since most aszú wines are a blend based primarily on Furmint. This is only the 4th or 5th Aszú Essencia that I've had. At retail this will probably sell in the $240 range. Aszú Essencia is the equivalent of a 7 or 8 Put wine and are only made in the best vintages. 2000 was one of those vintages in Tokaj. This was certainly a notch up from the 2000 6 Put from this estate. Thicker and more intense. On the downside it also showed much more youthful sweetness and awkwardness. All of which should come into balance with another 7-10 years so patience will be required with this wine. Notes of waxy fruit including pineapple, lime, apricot and some chestnut notes. A real treat. 93+ points.
