  • This is very good for a wine of this age and in this price range. It has spent four months in french oak and obviously many, many more months in the bottle and it is still very fresh! Even though I have not had a bottle of Mencia in ages I immediately recognised the grape characteristics upon opening and when having the first sip. Already 20-30 minutes later this was gone but the bottle was still going strong, albeit in a bit more generic "Spanish" way. This behaviour continued on day two as nothing had really changed compared to when I left it yesterday. It can probably be kept for one year or two and it will still perform well but if you want the characteristics to shine through you ought to be moving a bit faster.
