Curious after reading press on 16. Purchased 17 (one of each bottling) to purchase 16 Avoyelles. Wasn't asked to but did so with higher expectations. I've had some really great 17's and unfortunately this is not one of them. Good, not great. Of the 17's this was my least favorite.

Same note as before with this is overly roasted and burnt. Not appealing to me. Not sure the deal here as it’s unlike the fruit 16 and very different from other high end 17’s from other producers I’ve had.
Borderline Larkmead in style but more full bodied. Stewed black fruit, barnyard, damp soil and bay leaves dominate. An almost burnt espresso and scorched earth quality then resonate through the entire palate. Accessible but tannins still sharply grip on the finish. Likely some upside here but lacking freshness.
