Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 87.7 points

  • Earthy and rich nose. Dark fruit, tobacco, wood, spice. Full bodied on the palate with cassis, plum, raspberry, earth, mushroom, roasted meat and strong tannins. Good but not as expressive as hoped for.

Interesting the next day. Strong olive, jam, figs. Very good evolution.

  • The 2016 Clarendelle is a strong buy in its range. Definitely echo Jeff's note that it would be a good choice for casual restaurants. All cassis at first, the cigar box element appeared after about an hour in the decanter and was later amplified by pairing with Thai chilis. Fun for a weeknight on my own. Drink over the next 3 years or so.

Varieties: 51% Merlot and 49% Cabernet Sauvignon
Probably a typical representation of basic Bordeaux in all its best qualities. Especially in terms of price / quality ratio.
Beautiful ruby red color of young wine with a purple rim.
Moderately intense, pronounced fruity aromas (currants, blackberries and cherries ...) and a delicate shade of oak (which may not be enough).
The taste is dry, moderately warming wine with fresh acidity and delicate tannins. The aftertaste is long-lasting and interesting, just right for long gatherings.
The wine has a full-bodied structure and a medium balance towards acidity.
Considering that the wine is still young, I recommend decanting and leaving the wine to “breathe” for 4 hours.
A good average wine, but I think it is more complex than the base but falls short of something special.
In general, wine needs another couple of years to mature, say, until 2025.

  • With an earthy leaning, the medium bodied wine is all about its tobacco and soft, dark red fruit charm. For ordering in a restaurant, this is a nice choice.
