  • This pours light ruby in the glass with touches of purple and pink toward the rim. The nose is immediately expressive and complex, only gaining with air. Aromas waft cinnamon, cherry, plum, woodsy undergrowth, bay leaf, sassafras, dry dusty soil, a touch of blood orange, and a top note of ginger. The palate enters on red plum and cherry turning to medium minus powdery tannin with medium plus blood orange tinged acid, and a mineral, ginger, and cola/sassafras finish. While there is some apparent new oak here, it's quite immaculately integrated. To the point where it's difficult to discern what is driving the spice notes, it seems to be some clear combination of oak, stems, or simply the terrior. Impressive that it can so seamlessly blend all three and overall quite nice stuff. While I often prefer more pure red fruit than this apparent mix of red and darker fruit, this wine does it quite well and I have to say I love it.
