The 2017 Envinate Ribeira Sacra Lousas Viña de Aldea is maturing in beautiful way. Its bouquet is like human catnip; violets, lavender, a dusting of exotic spice and dried cherries. This presents a tension-filled yet harmonious expression of the palate, as minerality cakes the senses only to be broken down by brisk acids, all resulting in a vidid display of black currants and sweet spice. There's a tug of adolescent tannin, yet not obtrusive at this time, but instead grounding, as notes of blackberry preserves and hints of sage slowly fade. Nicely done. Give this another year or two--it's a beauty.

Envinate’s Lousas is good. It’s very nice. But next to Envinate’s Canary wines, it’s like the middle movements of Op. 130 versus the Grosse Fugue. When people rave about Envinate’s mainland wines, my response is “Why didn't they have the Vidueño? Cattle! Asses!"

Medium ruby/ purple color - appears unfiltered Medium plus aromas of cherry/ blueberry with leather/ smoke/ dry earth and green herbal notes - quite complex and Burgundian Medium palate - quite complex as well - red/ blue fruit with strong herbal and mineral background Medium plus tannins which are fairly well integrated with medium plus acidity and average finish Excellent wine - bright and energetic but at the same time with great complexity Ribera Sacra is really a great middle point between the fresh/lighter Rias Baixas reds and the Bierzos, which can be more dark and riper at times
