Dark cherry and spice aromas, with a little farmyard niff and tobacco, then a bright, chirpy mouthful of dark cherry and blackcurrant, quite spicy but also with a hefty dollop of brett. Very silky and elegant, already drinking well but plenty of improvement in perspective. Overall very enjoyable, a step up from the Quartiers cuvée but not at the same level as Le Grand Clos or Les Malgagnes.
After two days in the cellar this improved a lot: the Brett disappeared leaving a much more harmonious wine, beautifully balanced with very clear, fresh fruit and a wonderful velvety touch. Definitely one to look out for with a long future.

A really positive bouquet revealed savoury cherry notes that were meaty, with notes of game and talc. The tannins were ripe and ever present, and will hold the wine together as it matures. On the minus side I detected Brett and I felt this will become more pronounced as it ages. CHP 86 pts

PnP. ABV 13%. Expressive nose with Cabernet Franc funk, a mix of old barrels, wet earth, and flowers. No Brett. Fruits driven and fine tannins. Full-bodied and long finish. Slightly bitter too. Bigger but not necessarily better than ‘17 La Coudraye. If anything La Coudraye is drinking better now but doesn’t have the density and length of Petite Cave. Another well made wine and excellent QPR. Big fan of this producer.

Chalk taste characteristic of the Loire Valley. Great to Seung it slightly chilled in summer.
