Drunk over 3 nights in September 2013. I have had the 2005 every year since release and each year I like it more. This wine, for me at least, is meant for cellaring AND needs aeration. It should be interesting for the next 5-8 years. When young I found it too firm, tight, unyielding and, worst of all, with a slightly bitter taste in the finish. Now the bitterness is gone and the wine is softer and more nuanced. The acid backbone is ever present and gives it structure and character as a food wine. It is still lip-smacking, from the acid and fruit flavors, but the tannins are softer. Medium-intensity aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, spice and minerals, some floral notes. Big, slightly lush (but not sweet) flavors of dark red fruit, some earth and minerals. Medium length finish with a savory and slightly sappy aftertaste.
I love Bonarda from Lombardy and Piedmont, but those wines are soft and spicy (often fizzy). This wine is not at all in that style, but is worth discovering if you give it a lot of time to evolve.

Some cedar and spice on the nose, good red cherry and blueberry fruit, well balanced, nice mouth feel, fairly long finish. Supposed to be past its prime but still holding well. Wish I had more. 91+

Very nice fruit, dark cherry, chocolate, waning tanin.
