2017 Domaine du Chêne Condrieu was rich, floral and honeyed. The wine was clear and medium lemon in colour, with perfume of ripe pear, apricot, honeysuckle and bread. On the palate, it was dry and quite full-bodied with medium-low level acidity and noticeable alcoholic heat. Flavours of toast, peach and blossom filled the medium-long finish. It was a controversial wine among tasters, as some admired the exotic perfume of honey, flowers and stone fruits, while some found it flabby, alcoholic and out of balance. To be honest, this bottle Condrieu was on the riper end of the spectrum, and might have lost more acidity in grape ripening and in the winemaking.
