  • Way too young

  • Opened an hour before tasting (no decant). Initially decent with plum, soft tannins, medium complexity and finish. Additional time brought more depth and more texture on the finish.

  • Appearance: deep ruby, medium staining, heavy tearing, no rim variation, no sediment.

Nose: clean, medium+ intensity, developing, black plum, blackberry, black olive, blueberry, ripe strawberry, scorched earth, bacon fat, charred wood, vanilla, pie crust, prune, dried blueberry.

Palate: dry, medium- acid, medium tannin, high alcohol (14.5%), full body, medium+ intensity, medium finish, tad bitterness, black plum, blackberry, black olive, blueberry, ripe strawberry, scorched earth, smoked meat, black pepper, charred wood, toasted coconut, vanilla, prune, dried blueberry.

Overall: Syrah takes the lead in this New World GSM blend, providing ripe black fruits, olive, meatiness, and a little pepper. The sweet oak notes are a little too pronounced, and at this stage not super integrated. The structure isn't quite balanced; the acid is slightly lower than expected, and the alcohol is noticeable. This wine definitely has plenty of intensity, and a decent amount of complexity, but as a whole package I wasn't convinced. I don't think it has the structure to age too long, and the fruit is already rather ripe and well within the dried end of the spectrum, so I think this should be consumed earlier rather than later.

  • Lots of Southern Rhône vibes all around here. Red fruit, cedar and orange zest giving way to dusty, earthy vibes on a long finish.
