  • Ooh, this is lovely. Decanted off its copious chunky sediment, but otherwise absolutely ready. A soft, enveloping nose that had some sweet cherry and an underlying sense of sauvage. Perhaps lacking a bit of concentration on the palate, which had cool brambly fruit, some cocoa, a fair bit of structure and - other than a blackcurrant squash note on the finish - an overall sense of dry restraint.

  • Delightfully mellow, with the tannins almost completely melted away. Plenty of black cherry and black olive, and a hint of smoke, made the nose something to delight in. An almost Bloody Mary-esque experience on the palate, ripe and savoury and tangy all at the same time. Didn't enjoy this as much as the first bottle a year ago, but it was a great foil for the Christmas cheese.

  • First from six purchased at auction earlier this year. Decanted gently for sediment (there was plenty!) and started upon immediately. The nose was gorgeous, and complex too: a delightful melange of sweet brambly fruit, game, truffle, earth and campfire ash. Slightly less enchanting on the palate, again with juicy forest fruit, some tapenade towards the finish, and the bitter, ashy note increasingly prominent with air. Some tannins definitely noticeable for the first hour or so, but gone for the final glass. No need to wait to open further bottles of this IMO.

  • Blast of cassis on opening but it fades a bit. Olive tapenade and red fruits nose. Thick wine but tannins well masked. Glossy red fruits of fine quality. A good, youthful Syrah but needs more time to become an animale Cornas. Leave for 5 years.

  • Quel beau vin !
