  • This Syrah dominated cuvée (80% in recent vintages) and its slightly less muscular sister, La Maison Jaune, are amongst the classiest and most elegant wines from Languedoc. Colour was still deep with few signs of age. The nose took some time to open up and remained quite shy with attractive cherry and grilled meat notes. The palate was quite full bodied and velvety textured with good depth of dark fruit showing quasi Côte-Rôtie aromas of cherry, metal, grilled meat and violet on entry and mid-palate leading to more Mediterranean hints of herbs, tar, liquorice and chocolate on the firm finish. The Alquiers recommend decanting and I should have followed their advice to open up the nose in particular. No signs of decline but darker in fruit than a few years ago. Very good indeed.
