Wow, this was a great Shiraz, even though not very typical. Perfumed smell of berries and roses. Smooth tannins and small amount of oak very well integrated as an aged wine, yet the fruit is still young and powerful with just a touch of black pepper. Hint of sweetness that I actually liked here, as it strengthens the wonderful raspberry, blackberry and blueberry mix on this wine, but may not be for everyone's palate. Also, because of this character, probably not the best match with beef or game let alone cheese, rather I'd think of pork or perhaps even with some desserts. Lingering aftertaste. Excellent QPR if you like the atypical style.

South African 'Picnic' offline (DML, London): Again, a rich fruity nose. Very young. It's not tannic but seems almost too much. Quite clumsy. Perhaps needed to be cooler or needs more time for the element to integrate. Hard to see where this might go.

Juicy and somewhat sweet rosehips in the bouquet. Full bodied. A sweet start, cherries, raspberries and a good amount of acidity. Soft bitterness in the aftertaste, in which also the sweetness comes back.

Purple red. A very youthfull colour: purple/darkred. A shy nose. Bramble, fruitcake, holding back some black fruit. A bit hot on the palate, pepper, jammy notes, some spicy wood. Low on acid. Solid and compact. Nice. Drink now untill ... 2011?

Shapely, civilised and harmonious, soft fruit, crisp minerality, velvety and dense, sturdy, good length. Not unlike a Saint-Joseph.
