  • beautiful Italian merlot driven blend. dusty tannins and earth and dark fruit mix well together. nice aromatics as well. I think this is in a good spot

  • Still a good amount of fresh acidity left in a beautiful complex wine. I really enjoyed the mix of softened fruit and earthy flavors.

  • 3.5 hrs slow ox. Earthy nose is reminiscent of bdx with earth, mushroom, muted red fruit. Surprisingly tannic but still well-balanced. Quite dry mid palate leads to a lengthy finish, this was extraordinary with Rose's homemade pasta ans meatballs but theres tons of sediment even in the middle of the bottle

  • 4 hour decant. Nose: mushrooms, blackberries, new leather, tobacco, tomato leaf, herbs, cedar. Palate: dry, full body, blackberries, fig, oak spices, tobacco, some bitter raspberries, black olives, pop of black cherries on the finish.

  • First of 3 ($56@) after a one off 2 years ago. That wine came out youthful, roaring, even a bit fractious; I loved it, thought it one of the best qpr quaffs I’d had, and thought it likely to be long-lived, and if anything, more likely to get better than worse. Bit of a different experience here. Not quite like CT friend Mark, in that I don’t get the oak and would describe it more as a bit faded, at the least a lot less vivid, than tight, particularly compared to the last bottle. Having found that to be the case, I drank it with the cork back in the bottle, but with the slow ox and air in the glass over 2 nights, it did fill out, if not nearly to the point of what I remembered. At any rate, well balanced, with good underlying, but now totally integrated, structure, good on its own, even better with homemade thin crust pizza on night #1. Could this really have advanced this much in 2 years, especially when so many Tuscan ‘13s are just coming into their optimal windows, was it something with this particular bottle or lot? Well, stay tuned, as I’ll likely pop bottle #2 in the next 6 months or so, but at any rate, my 5-10 year window of great drinking is def on hold, and I’m pulling in my window by 7 years. 92+ with a ? Or 2.
