Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • 14% alcohol. Cinsault, Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah 20% each. Good long dense cork. The colour is medium ruby with some thinning at the edge.
Very intense nose with red berries and violets; an alcoholic whiff at the back end is not enough to detract from the enjoyment. The mouth is nimble with pretty redcurrant, satisfactory grip and plenty of balancing acidity; nothing overripe here.
Probably in the same class as Mas de la Séranne Clos des Immortelles, possibly in a lighter mode (no negativity implied, in fact this does not taste like a southern wine, and there is a lot of merit to that), but comparisons are hazardous after significant time lapses. The wine could not cope with the marinade in the barbecue, but the fault is mine (wrong pairing); tasting note based on post prandial glass. A success for sure.
Interesting how the owner Guilhem Dardé describes himself as "paysan vigneron" on the label; never seen that before.
Now feel that I should taste his "Nuit Grave" cuvée.
