  • Spring Break in Napa -- Who Needs Cancun?; 3/22/2024-4/27/2024 (Oakville, St. Helena, Calistoga): First taste just after opening and sipped through its journey for about 2 hours 15 minutes. First Kinsman wine ever and wow this backed up the hype. We’ve heard a lot of talk about this being a challenging vintage but you wouldn’t know it drinking this.

Beautifully perfumed with lots of energy. Very big wine but well balanced in terms of structure and tannin with complexity and verve to back it up. Just leapt out of the glass. Was definitely the most red-fruited and floral of the options we tried this day.

The vintage gap further highlighted the difference between this wine and the ones later in the flight but still stands out in my mind in terms of the complexity and floral zing. Still had great tertiary, earthy notes that highlighted the balance here and that came through later on as it got more air. Really something special. 97-98

  • This experience was in line with my earlier tasting note, just with better integration. Unbelievably great considering the vintage, this is bright, focused and balanced without losing concentration and depth. There is tremendous texture which makes it quick to disappear with or without food alongside. It's not quite as big and burly as better vintages, but it's no slouch and the elegance transforms it into a star. I would have never guessed 2017 if given this blind. Tastes more like a 2014. I'd consider popping the cork in the next couple years as it's entering a great drinking window and likely won't be the longest lasting of the Kinsman vintages.

  • NYE wine. Loved where this is now and how this wine drank, feel AG really nailed the descriptors. The wine is precise and focused with a wonderful inner mouth energy, excellent red fruit extraction and a nice fresh livliness. For a somewhat lighter vintage, yet this provides nice depth and velvety texture. Simply delicious. Drink or hold, my personal pref is to drink now or over the next 3-5 years. Another stunner from Nigel and Shae.

  • Drank a glass a day over a week while the family was on a road trip. It's got nice structure with some delicious fruit. But was a little acidic (best way to describe it but don't think it's actual acid/pH) on the finish - throughout the drinking window. Still delicious but after just drinking a 2018 Rhadamanthus - this was not as good as it's sister and maybe I was expecting more.
