Intense garnet colour and just starting to show signs of evolution. The first nose is very seductive with spices and oak aromas...but you quickly realize that it's more of an oak infusion than anything else. The oak is so overwhelming (probably using heavy toast) that I'm unable to identify any primary aromas, and at $CAD92, I want to get some fruit. Because of the oak, there's some bitterness on the finish and the length is rather short...
It says 12.5% abv on the label, but I'm convinced it's at least 13.5-14% (they are permitted a 1.5% difference - when lower than 14%). You can clearly feel the heat...
Believe it or not, we had trouble finishing the bottle and this is a Russian River Pinot Noir, it should be a lot more complex and more refreshing.
If you like simple and very oaky Pinot Noir, you'll love this wine otherwise, choose something else.
