  • -- tasted a single pour non-blind over approx. 15 – 20 minutes --
    -- from magnum --

Rich, buttery, and oaky on the Nose, along with an interesting salami aspect. Rich golden yellow color. Medium-light body. High acidity. I got the impression the fruit is starting to fall away on this one, and would therefore recommend drinking now; others around me seemed to think this isn't as far along its aging path. Drink Now.

  • Arcadian Retrospective in the O.C. (Casa del Dietz): -- bottle opened at least one hour prior to tasting --
    -- tasted a single pour non-blind over 10 – 15 minutes --

NOSE: cheesy --- smells like baked potato wedges with parmesan cheese; moderately expressive; smells aged.

BODY: tan-golden yellow color of great depth; medium bodied.

TASTE: tastes aged; good acidity; underbrush; lemon; 13.5% alc not noticeable; seems to be richer, flatter, and less acidic than the '97 vintage of the same, and for those reasons I prefer the '97 to this '98. That said, this is a very nice wine, and I feel it's at peak for my preferences.

  • Totally oxidized. bummer. Last bottle was nice. This bottle was tawny colored and sherried. Yuck.

  • I was surprised to discover this little gem at a liquor store/gas station standing upright, covered in dust, and with scuffs on the label. I wasn't optimistic about the provenance of this bottle, but for $14 I'll give it a go.

After the cork disintegrated, I poured this through a filter into a decanter. It presents almost the color of apple juice, with roasted caramels and caramelized fruit on the nose. The palate shows flavors of orange marmalade, honeyed pineapple, and butterscotch, which start out tired, but incredibly, seem to increasingly come to life the longer this is open. Plenty of underlying crispness remains, providing a nice buoyancy to the flavors.

Though past its prime, and with questionable keeping for the past ten years, this is a well crafted wine which was still fun to drink.

  • Amazing for a 10 year old wine. Yet another reminder that Arcadian wines - white and red - need a lot of bottle time. But then, wow, they are awesome. Deep, deep golden color, almost like a really good dark honey.
