  • The wine was open but not decanted for one hour prior to serving because initial tasting right after opening suggested that the extensive decanting may ruin it.
Ruby red color. Nose, what I call a typical Gigondas aroma, was of forest floor with red fruit, plum with Asian spice and very subtle barnyard aroma.
Taste of plums, red currant, sour cherries, some cured meats and smoke. Slightly unbalanced due to high alcohol content of 14.5, which felt even higher. Short finish.
Not bad but nothing exceptional either.
I have to open my 2005 of this wine to see how they compare.

  • Not great. Found it to be an average old world syrah with the grenache not really shining through. Med acidity, med tannins, but fell apart a bit on the finish becoming a little disjointed and hot.
