  • Prior bottle was 17 months ago and this wine continues to show quite well. White and yellow peach, white pineapple and citrus notes on the nose. Medium bodied with white peach and white apple upfront, moving to yellow peach and adding white pineapple through the middle. Mid-body has a lot of depth as well as richness. White pear, lemon and acidity behind and through the finish. Not as much acidity as previously meant that the richness and even some overt sweetness starts to come through more noticeably through the middle. The tart qualities/notes behind still work really well with the mid-body fruit and while richer, the wine still shows quite well and should for a number of years to come. I'll wait until at least Fall 2024 for my next bottle.

  • Definitely towards the auslese end of the spectrum. Ripe tropical fruits, good dry extract. Wish there was just a touch more tension.

  • White peach and mixed tropical notes (especially pineapple) on those nose. Medium bodied (9% ABV) with white apple and white peach upfront. Moves to yellow peach, white pineapple and a variety of other tropical notes through the mid-body. Mid-body has very good depth and just touch of sweetness. The tropical notes and sweetness are balanced well by the tart white pear, lemon (and other citrus notes) and very nice acidity on the backside and through the finish. The combination of pear+lemon+acidity worked well against the yellow peach+pineapple+sweetness to cerate balance. This wine has a long life ahead of it, especially based on where the acidity is today. I expect in future it should show more expression and complexity through the middle and the tart notes and acidity behind should remain vibrant for quite awhile to come. Next bottle for me will be Fall 2023.

  • A lovely young Spätlese, full of flavor and beautifully balanced with sweet honeyed pear, apple and a tart citrusy finish. Shows how a sweet rich wine can also be delicate and sharp at the same time. Very good.

  • Notes consistent with the previous bottle and just as good; though this bottle made all the more enjoyable by drinking it while on a live Zoom call with the man himself, Johannes Selbach who took the time to answer all of our questions about the vintage, the vineyards, his wine making and more; both wine and the company were great!
