  • Entry level Carter, akin to an entry level Ferrari. enough said.

  • This wine was so good the day before, I opened my second of three bottles for the fam...who all thoroughly enjoyed it! For those who like big, hedonistic wines with lots of stellar fruit, this won't disappoint....if you are truly a Francophile or have only an old school palate, this is not for you....you will find it lacking in the tertiary flavors and likely too sweet.....but if you love and appreciate the purity of fruit in a wine, this is killer juice! Same prep as previous bottle (aerator and 30 min decant), but this one only lasted an hour. Same score for this bottle, i.e., 95.

  • Opened a bottle of this and a bottle of 2017 Fortuna....this one was much better! Filtered through an aerator and into a decanter for thirty minutes then drank over the next 3 hours.

Nose showed some florals and lots of dark fruit with shaved dark chocolate and sweet, toasty oak. On the palate, this started out right away as hedonistic wine with plenty of dark fruit, chocolate and some vanilla, with hints of forest floor and spice, but it is mostly about the fruit and the sexy mouthfeel that keeps bringing you back for another sip even before the medium-long finish has subsided. Oak was well integrated and fruit was show-stopping! Truly a pleasure to drink, and wish I had more than 3 bottles! Great QPR! Easy 95 for me!

  • 3 1/2 hour decant. Solid grip on the stems after a good swirl. Nose remains restrained, a hint of distant forest, cedar and dark cherry.

Really nice balance on the palate that makes this drinkable now and shows some ability to improve. Dark black and blue fruit dominates with the leather and dry tannins on the finish, which lasts for 15 to 20 seconds. While the fruit isn’t particularly complex or showing much depth or layering, it’s a solid and very enjoyable wine.

While I’m very attuned to QPR at this price point, this delivers as well as expected from the vintage. A step below the 2016 vintage we enjoyed a few months back, but since Mrs Davidandrose puts this at 94-95 and she typically rates more leniently than I, I’ll award the same 94 as the ‘16.

  • A smooth robust Cabernet. Definitely on my wish list
