  • PnP, then drunk over a Thai dinner. Short note.
Quite moderate sweetness, which didn't feel excessive even as the temperature of the wine rose, towards the end of the evening. A nice mineral backbone balances the wine and makes it interesting. Lovely Kabinett.

  • Update to my note of 10/7/20:

Colour: light gold, green tinge, good viscosity, bright, clear.
Nose: full, fresh and ripe, greengages, apricots, a touch of spice and musk.
Taste: med body, rounded, rip, musky and also floral notes leading to stone fruit, good acidity/sweetness balance, long, fresh finish focused on greengages with good balance not to be cloying.
Overall, this has evolved well, notably in the ability to deliver terroir in spite of the residual sugar, a challenge before.

  • One of my favourite producers in the Mosel. Great brother and sister team with big ambitions.
I love their Häs'chen Trocken, very spicy and a particular flavour from this single vineyard, interestingly an Alleinbesitz aka Monopole in French terms.
How does the Kabinett version stack up, as indeed the other sweeter versions of their other holdings like Hofberg? Generally, they lack the focus and precision of the dry versions, a bit like too much dosage in a good Champagne.
Colour: v pale gold, green tinge, bright, clear.
Nose: full, fresh, ripe, honeyed, ripe greengage, grapefruit, good varietal notes, not as much spice as the Trocken.
Taste: light/med body, rounded, elegant, sweetness on entry masks the fruit flavours, ripeness typical of the vintage, sweetness slightly outweighs the acidity, med finish, sweetness noticeable, good fruit, grapefruit and greengage, and sound acidity.
Overall, obviously still a child needing to lose puppy fat and develop the complexity inherent in the site. Barrel ferment and aging adds complexity.
8% ABV, residual sugar unknown while writing.
