  • Sampled at the winery. This is going to be the best vintage since 2012 of this wine. Rich purple color. Smoky texture with notes of currants and wet earth. 91+ points.

  • Tasted at the winery. Barrel Sample. Jim has not settled on a name yet or the exact blend but he has 9 barrels of Merlot, 4 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon and 2 barrels of Cab Franc to bottle. Since his traditional Shou bottling in Cabernet Sauvignon based, he said he was thinking of doing a 2nd Bordeaux blend based primarily on Merlot. I suggested making 2 Shou wine and put an L and R after them to designate and left and right bank blend which he may end up doing. This will be a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc and should be stunning. This was showing much better than the Shou L at this premature age. Deep red purple color. Creamy and well rounded and Pomerol in style. Fuller bodied. Notes of blueberry, shitake mushroom and pomegranite. Long finish. 90-93 points.

This is wine will be a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, merlot and Cab Franc. This had some tobacco on the nose with notes of leather and red berries. Leaner at this point than the Merlot based blend. Very rough score since the blend is yet to be determined. 89-91 points.
