DIVA Burgundy Tasting; 3/19/2024-3/20/2024 (Beaune): Walkaround tasting with producers. Very big and powerful, brooding and firm right now but still attention grabbing. Needs until 2033 or longer, 92-93+ point potential.

Tasted at Maison Lameloise in Chagny, Burgundy. Deep crimson color, quite extracted with plenty of red fruit, cherry flavors. Surprisingly thick mouthfeel for a red burgundy (admittedly I am not expert on Bourgogne). Not crazy about the grape seeds flavored tannins on the mid-palate. Maybe they'll resolve themselves over time, maybe not. Very enjoyable wine that was served with duck breast.

Consistent with previous note. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of red fruits, red cherry, strawberry, spices and oak. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Tannin is rounded and fine. Good mouthfeel and aromatic nose. Already drinking well and expected to improve with cellaring. Decant for 1 hour.

On opening...rich, deep fruit nose. Some oak / woodsy like a cigar box. On the palate, surprisingly little fruit given the age. Lovely complex flavor of stewed fruit, chocolate, subtle cherry (maybe red velvet cake). Definitely elegant and should age very well.

Burgundy Paulée with the Chevaliers du Tastevin (Chez Mike, East Greenbush, NY): From magnum. Mature nose of tart red fruit and autumn leaves. Juicy, complex, tasty, but more mature than I would expect, especially from a magnum. Still, a pleasure to drink tonight.
