Wow; this was a disaster; I've read lots of good things about this producer and I love Volnay so have been curious to try; I know 18 is not a vintage that flatters the classic Volnay style and I was just curious, but this was not pleasant; the nose was ripe dark fruit, oak spice, mint, maybe some floral notes and while not great it wasn't terrible; the palate however was totally disjointed; tannic, overripe, flat, and unpleasant. I'll hope this is just in a very awkward stage? Will see if it is any better tomorrow.

Domaine Tasting at Y Clerget (Pommard): 75+ year old vines. A more packed and layered nose with spice, herb and mineral notes in the red fruit aromas. So much more minerality here in the concentrated red fruits. Long and intense. Cellar for a decade+. 93-94+

Burgundy, Day 1 (Beaune, France): Barrel sample. 100% destemmed from 75-year-old vines and grapes with millerandage. Another step up for my taste from the Mitans and Verseuil in terms of concentration. Lots of power here, with a large amount of tannin on the back end. Excellent.

40% new oak. 100% destemmed. From 80 year old vines, very low yield 20hl/ha in 2018. Fragrant raspberries, wild berries and dark spices. A big-boned Volnay with great richness and firm backbone. Lots of fruit intensity for the long haul. (87/100)

Domaine Tasting at Y Clerget (Pommard): Full nose of rich red fruit. The palate has excellent concentration and depth. The most concentrated wine in the line up. Good smoke, spice and floral nuance potential. 91-93+
