  • Medium ruby in the glass with 3 well-developed transitions and a watery edge. A nose of rosemary, lavender, herbs, damp forest, red licorice, raspberries and cedar. This wine is subtle on the nose, but makes it presence very well known on the palate. On the nose, everything seems in balance. I decanted it over 5 hours with the wine taking on more fruit tones vs. herbs and bouquet. Nearly full-bodied with a broad, rich mid-palate, soft tannins and a long persistence. With lively acids, great structure and plenty of depth, I'd say this has at least 4-6 more years of good drinking ahead of it. Reminds me of a nice Pauillac. 13.9% alcohol

  • Parker is way too hard on Constant. He always seems to underrate this wine. I've had the '96, '99 and '01 Constant, and they are all quite good. The '99 and the '01, in fact, are wonderful. The '96 is a little thin and austere, revealing mostly red fruit and herbs and not Contsant's best effort, but it is still very good. Look for the '99 or the '01 on Winebid.com. Sometimes you can get it for about 2/3 of the release price, and if you remember to decant for at least 1.5 hours you won't be dissatisfied.
