  • 91-92 My first Merlin, continuing my quest to find noble, terroir driven, but budget friendly, chardonnay in the Macon. Single vineyard, 18m in mainly old barrels.

N: Sweet orchard fruit, apricot, white peach, pear drops, subtle high quality vanilla extract.

P: Silky mouthfeel that creeps up on you. Crisp summer apple, green apple flesh, honeycomb, tart pear. Phenolic flower blossom grip, lemon oil that i have found in many high class Pouilly Fuisses. A bit fat.

F: Enveloping richness that lasts and lasts

  • Full gold colour. Medium (+) and developing nose with ripe green apples, pear, ripe lemon, ripe peach, butter, charred wood, popcorn, oak, brioche, jalapeño and smoke. Medium (+) taste of ripe green apples, pear, ripe peach, ripe lemon, butter, charred wood, oak, brioche, jalapeño, smoke and wet stone. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good and well made Mâcon that has developed well. Needed half an hour of air to open. Drink now or over the next couple of years. Cheeses, fish or shellfish.
