  • Sat, 01/25/20, $2 Tasting (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): “From dry farmed vyds, vines from 4-18 yrs of age, planted in soils of Clovelly & Tukulu, both forms of decomposed granite, on the E-facing slopes of Constantiaberg Mtn; Breezes sweeping in from False Bay, a mere 8 mi away, make it one of S. Africa’s coolest winegrowing areas.
“The handpicked grapes were crushed & left in contact with the skins for 12 hrs before pressing. The juice was inoculated with 5 select yeast cultures, & a long, cool fermentation (54-61°F) took place in s/s tanks over a period of 3 wks. The wine was aged on its lees in tank for approximately 3 mos before bottling. 14.15% ABV, 4.2 g/l R.S., 6.8 g/l T.A., & 3.22 pH;”

    N: Barnyrd slightly atop grass

P: Med, poss MF, body; VERY RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (suspect threshold R.S.), acidity trying to balance into the LONG, tangy/SWT (35:65) finish with a very, VERY slight bitterness or poss even a quasi-bitter flatness. A quaff, though MIGHT work with lighter fare?? IF the finish improves, my VG-/VG will be low. 88 pts ea WS & Wine & Spirits (8/’19) + “Best Buy”. [Other than 1 outlier @ ≈$2 < , this vendor's $11.95 is as good as anyone on wine-searcher.]
