This wine has relaxed a little and opened up nicely. My prior TN is still a good description, but for this bottle, a 93pt score seems more appropriate.

I decanted for two hours and we thought that it was very good. It was later in the evening and our second bottle so we were a little less picky on each particular. We did enjoy it alot but it wasn’t a 100 point bottle.

I’ve enjoyed a number of vintages of Almavina dating back to 1999, but like others, I’m scratching my head over this. Decanted prior to dinner. Lots of very ripe red and black fruits, rich loamy dirt, and weak coffee with underpinnings of green herbs and tobacco. Still very primary at 6+ years. There’s definitely some chewy tannins in the mix, but I’m not sure (and I may be wrong) if there’s enough acidity to provide balance (this was a very hot vintage). Enjoyed with a grilled ribeye, corn on the cob, and Brussels sprouts. Finishes medium. Time will tell on this. Drink or hold through 2030+. It’s looks like a significant number of the professional critics may have overrated this…it’s not even close to being 100pts (JS)!
PS: This continued to evolve over a 3+ hour period, and started to show some nuance, but overall, I still have concerns about the massive amount of upfront fruit and whether the existing structure can integrate and support long term evolution.

Too early to open, decanting did help. But the wine is not yet integrated. Nose has some depth / herbs after a while, but the palate is one dimensional and simple. A big disappointment at the moment, hope it will improve with more bottle age. In any case, it was way overrated by some wine critics.

Despite it's pedigree and superior ratings, this was a bit disjointed, perhaps needing more time in which to integrate and settle. Dark garnet colored, medium bodied, tightly wound and structured black berry fruits with notes of cassis, black tea, leather and earth. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2023/06/pour-boys-impromptu-wine-dinner-on-deck.html
