2016 base vintage. 100% Chardonnay from 35- to 40-year-old vines from Grand Cru sites in Avize, Mesnil, Oger and Cramant. Partial malolactic fermentation. A minimum of six years on the lees in bottle before disgorgement, with zero dosage.
Pale straw golden colour. Floral notes, apple, lemon curd, almond, vanilla, biscuit, brioche, and chalky minerality, with good acidity and great persistence. Well-balanced, with a creamy texture. This 2016 base edition is riper, broader, and less focused than other versions I have had, but complex, pleasant, and easy to like.

A classic tight, dry and elegant BdB. Aromas of citrus, unripe yellow apples and fresh bread. Long and persistent. Developed positively in the glass through several hours.

I was a bit surprised that this was a zero dosage champagne. Very classic nose of lemon and little brioche, more lemon on the palate with medium intensity and finish. Charming mousse. Had a little richness and creaminess that I think is usually missing on zero dosage offerings, perhaps because it was served with oysters and lobster rolls so the acidity was nicely balanced by the food. So, fairly tasty but not especially remarkable. Good, but perhaps not quite distinguished enough given the price.

Almond, brioche, and lemon zest up front. Solid bead, strong acidity. Nose follows to the lees focused palate, finishing short and dry. Excellent, but the abbreviated finish constrains my enthusiasm a bit.

Much better than the last bottle. This developed into a rather balanced and down-the-middle-of-the-fairway BdB with mild lemony acidity and plenty of lees-contact bready notes.
