  • The nose is quite subdued but on the palate there's blackberry and sour plum with some herbal freshness and subtle chocolate.
Primary fruit and plush velvety tannins make a good first impression but then it's missing something.

  • {screwcap, 13.5%} Solid red, still youthful colour. Classic kiwi merlot nose of twigs, herbs, basil, diffuse plums with a sweet cranberry hint. Palate is dry and savoury, gently fruited with plum and raspberry flavours, but crunchy and astringent, despite fairly discreet finely dusty tannins. Medium acidity, not hot on the finish either. Moderate chocolatey oak on the palate too, which can’t quite fill the dip in the centre. The medium length finish is a bit hollow. You could keep this, but without hope of real complexity - it has a thoroughly competent but slightly commercial air about it. Nice enough.
