This bottle seemed better than the others. Popped and poured, nose of sweet raisin with a subtle amarone element. This seemed to last for about an hour then the fruit started to fade a bit into a sour cheery note. Good acid, but missing backbone and structure, still, best showing of this wine in recent memory.

I purchased this on release and it was absolutely fabulous, and impressive example of a fruit forward WA merlot. In 2002, I opened up a bottle to be dismayed at how much this wine had fallen apart. Disappointing was an understatement. The third bottle, however, was significantly better than the 2nd. I have not tasting notes (from memory), but there was still a good degree of dark red fruit and tannins making it an enjoyable L’Ecole. I wouldn’t hold any for much longer.

Working through any remaining bottles. This bottle a bit less successful than my previous tasting. Still best within the first 60 minutes of opening.

Over the hill. Open and drink within the first 2 hours, it goes down after that.

No tasting notes recorded. Consistent with previous tastings.
