I think there's a really impressive wine in here in what was a very good vintage for Chardonnay in Stellenbosch. I don't think we're there yet. 89 now potentiially 91 in a couple of years.

Chardonnay blind at Goldhill. Drank in Gabriel Standart and Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of cool citrus lemon, light toast, hint of white flowers, flint stones minerality. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of fragrant orange blossoms, salted nut, cool citrus lemon, underlying stony minerality. Green apple and salty + sweet elements with more air. Long minerally finish. Very good quality. Really quite Puligny-like to me. Like a good Puligny village.

I enjoyed this but over-priced given it was a mystery at $30. Would have been happy at $20.

Rich, elegant and opulent Chardonnay. Lovely balance, slight toasty buttery notes but the fruit is in control.

Very good bottle of South African wine but not necessarily the best value out there in the market.
