  • still not showing any real signs of age - rich dark fruit finish and smooth tannins. This is very good for the vintage. 3-4 more hours decant would have made this 2-3 points higher given how it performed over the night

  • PnP tasted non-blind over two hours. This took only a few minutes to open, and from there it had some subtle shifts along the way; fairly linear, elegantly textured. Some avg complexity and length, graceful at times, and in need of some more time to more fully flesh out though most at the dinner found it just fine as is. If I had any, I'd open again in five years, and not before, as I think it will have become more interesting, more complete.

  • 1 hour decant. Didn’t show as well as prior bottle. Way too thin around mid palate. I think a victim of the mediocre vintage.

50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Smaak / Afdronk: 18 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 95/100

Colour: Deep ruby red with - still after five years - an intense purple hue. Aroma / bouquet: An explosion of dark fruit, in which blackberries and blackcurrants, at the same time mature aromas of mocha, soft sweet licorice and a white pepper. Very attractive and seductive wine. Taste / Aftertaste: Also in the mouth this wine is all seductiveness. Soft fresh acidity, nicely ripened tannins with a refined bitterness. Mouth-filling, wonderful balance. General / potential: Until 2003, the grapes from Scarecrow's current vineyards were used to produce Inglenook and, to a lesser extent, Insignia and Opus One. 90% new French oak. 50 + Colour: 5 + Aroma / Bouquet: 13 + Taste / Aftertaste: 18 + General / Potential: 9 = 95/100

  • Scarecrow always good but 2017 seems a bit limited vs other vintages
